Arabic checkout

Selling in Arabic: the checkout language, the right name for COD, and clear policies.

5 guides · All guides

  1. How to offer an Arabic checkout on ShopifyAdd Arabic in Settings > Languages, translate your content, then publish it. Shopify shows the checkout in the language the shopper browses in, but Arabic isn't on Shopify's list of languages with ready-made checkout translations, so check every checkout screen in Arabic before you publish.
  2. What to call Cash on Delivery in Arabic«الدفع عند الاستلام» ("payment on receipt") is the wording Shopify's own Arabic help pages use for COD. «الدفع عند التسليم» ("payment on handover") and «الدفع نقدًا عند الاستلام» ("payment in cash on receipt") are two alternatives. Pick one, use it everywhere, and have a native speaker check it.
  3. A COD policy page template for GCC stores, in English and ArabicA COD policy tells shoppers where cash on delivery is offered, when it isn't, how to pay the courier and what happens if an order is refused. Copy the English and Arabic template below, fill in your details, have a native Arabic speaker check it, and link it from your checkout footer and FAQ.
  4. Confirming COD orders by phone, SMS or WhatsApp: costs and trade-offsPhone calls cost staff time. SMS costs a per-message fee set by your provider. WhatsApp Business Platform messages are charged by Meta per delivered message, by category and country. Confirm only COD orders, and hide COD on the riskiest carts so fewer orders need checking at all.
  5. Right-to-left checkout: what Arabic shoppers noticeOn an Arabic checkout the page reads right to left, but numbers, prices and Latin words still run left to right inside it. Arabic shoppers notice when punctuation jumps, English labels are left behind, or Arabic shows in a different font. Test the whole checkout on a phone before you publish.
