Choosing an approach
The main ways to control COD on Shopify, compared fairly.

- Hide COD, COD fee, partial COD or OTP: which fits your storeHiding COD stops risky orders from using cash at all. A COD fee pays for delivered COD orders but not refused ones. A deposit (partial COD) makes a refusal cost the shopper something. OTP proves the phone number works but can't stop a change of mind. You can combine them.
- COD form apps vs checkout rules: the trade-offsA COD form app takes the order in its own form and creates it in Shopify through the API, so the shopper skips Shopify's checkout. Checkout rules keep the checkout and hide or rename COD there. Shopify doesn't run payment customizations on API-created orders, so the two don't overlap.
- Questions to ask before installing any COD appBefore you install a COD app, find out what it changes at checkout and where its rules don't run, what store data it reads and keeps, what each plan includes, which Shopify plan it needs, what it leaves behind when you uninstall, how it handles Arabic, and who answers support.
