# Courier COD payouts: how and when the cash reaches you

> Your courier collects the cash at the door and pays it to you later in batches, on the schedule in your contract, minus any fees it is allowed to deduct. Match each payout statement to your Pending Shopify orders, then mark those orders as paid and chase anything missing.

Your courier collects the cash at the shopper's door, holds it for a while, and then pays it to
you in one transfer that covers many orders. How often it pays, what it deducts and what report it
sends with the money all depend on your contract. When a payout arrives, match it order by order
to your Shopify orders, mark the matched orders as paid, and raise anything missing with the
courier straight away.

## How does COD cash get from the shopper to you?

The details differ by courier, but the flow usually looks like this:

1. **Collection.** The driver delivers the parcel and collects the cash, or a card payment if your
   courier offers card on delivery.
2. **Hand-in.** The driver hands the cash in to the courier, which records it against your account.
3. **Remittance.** At set times, the courier transfers to you the COD cash it has collected since
the last payout. How often this happens is your **settlement cycle**.
4. **Statement.** The courier sends a list of the orders in that payout, with the amount collected
   for each and any fees.
5. **Reconciliation.** You check the statement against your orders and your bank, then mark the
   orders as paid in Shopify.

Shopify doesn't collect or pay out this cash. COD is a manual payment method, which means the payment happens
outside Shopify's checkout, and each COD order stays Pending until you mark it as paid. So the only
place to see what a courier owes you is your own records: the courier's statements and your
Pending orders in Shopify.

## What do couriers' published terms say?

Payout terms are part of your courier contract. Some couriers also describe them on public pages,
including these two in the UAE. We checked both on 26 October 2026:

- **Quiqup's self-service fee schedule** (prices in AED, excluding 5% VAT) says a COD fee of 2.5%
of the value collected applies to all cash and card payments it processes. It says invoicing and
COD reconciliation take place every 2 weeks, COD payments are made once a week, and COD payments
are released after your written confirmation has been received. It also says RTO orders (parcels
returned to you) are charged the full delivery fee.
- **Jeebly's blog post** of 28 November 2025 says it remits COD within 7 calendar days of
collection, on a weekly cycle, by transfer to the business's bank account, with a reconciliation
  report alongside each transfer.

These are examples, not recommendations, and terms change. Your own contract is what counts.

## What can be taken off a COD payout?

Depending on your contract, the courier may deduct some of these, or bill them separately:

- a COD or collection fee, as a percentage of the cash collected or a flat amount per order
- delivery fees
- return (RTO) fees for refused or undeliverable parcels
- fees for card payments taken on delivery
- VAT on the courier's fees

Some couriers take their fees out of the payout. Others pay you the full cash and send a separate
invoice. Ask which yours does, because it changes the amount you should expect in your bank.

> **Example:** These figures are examples; replace them with your own contract's rates. In one
> week your courier delivers 40 COD orders worth AED 12,000 in total. Your contract has a COD fee
> of 2% of the cash collected and a delivery fee of AED 20 per parcel, and the courier deducts both
> from the payout. Expected payout = 12,000 - (12,000 × 2%) - (40 × 20) = 12,000 - 240 - 800 =
> AED 10,960. If 5 more parcels were refused that week and your contract charges the delivery fee
> on returns, take off another 5 × 20 = AED 100, for AED 10,860.

## How do you match a payout to your Shopify orders?

1. When you book a parcel with the courier, use your Shopify order number (for example #1042) as
the reference, so it appears on the statement.
2. Ask for a statement with each payout that lists, for every order, your order number, the
tracking number, the amount collected and any fees.
3. Open your waiting orders. On the **Orders** page, filter **Payment status** to **Pending**
and **Fulfillment status** to **Fulfilled**, then save the view. See
[how to mark COD orders as paid](/guides/mark-cod-orders-paid/).
4. Export them. Shopify's order export includes the columns **Name** (the order number),
**Total**, **Payment Method** and **Fulfilled at**.
5. Match by order number. For each order on the statement, check that the amount collected
   equals what the shopper owed.
6. Mark the matched orders as paid. You can also tag them with the payout, for example
`payout-2026-10-26`. In **Orders**, select the orders, open the menu, click **Add tags** and
then **Save**. Order tags can be up to 40 characters, and the **Tagged with** filter finds the
   orders again later.
7. List the exceptions and send them to the courier the same week.

Exceptions to look for:

- orders the courier marked as delivered that aren't on any statement
- amounts that don't match the order total
- orders on the statement that you don't recognise
- return or COD fees charged on parcels you haven't received back
- orders that have been Fulfilled and Pending for longer than one settlement cycle

The last group is your to-chase list. Each one is a parcel that was delivered but not paid for, a
refusal that hasn't come back, or a parcel that may be lost. Refused parcels belong in your RTO
count; see [RTO explained](/guides/rto-explained/).

Your courier's statements or invoices also show what you pay per delivery and per return. Those
are the shipping-out and shipping-back amounts that Khaleeji COD's
[money-lost report](/help/money-lost-report/) asks for.

## Why does payout timing matter for cash flow?

Between delivery and payout, your money sits with the courier. The longer the cycle, the more of
your sales are out of your hands at any moment. If your courier pays weekly, about a week of
delivered COD sales can be with the courier at once, on top of parcels still out for delivery.

Online payments reach you through your payment provider instead, so moving some shoppers from
cash to card shrinks the amount you're waiting for. See
[nudging shoppers from cash to card](/guides/move-shoppers-from-cash-to-card/).

## What should you ask your courier?

Ask these before you sign, or at your next review:

1. How often do you pay out COD cash, and how many days after delivery?
2. Do you pay by bank transfer, and is there a minimum amount before you pay?
3. Which fees come out of the payout, and which do you invoice separately?
4. Do you charge a COD fee on refused or failed deliveries?
5. What do you charge when a parcel is returned to us (RTO)?
6. Can drivers take card payments on delivery, and is the fee different from cash?
7. What does each payout statement show: our order number, tracking number, amount collected,
   fees?
8. Do you need our confirmation before you release a payout?
9. Is there a limit on the cash value of one COD parcel?
10. Who do we contact about a missing or short payment, and how long do we have to raise it?

Keep the answers with your contract. When a payout looks wrong, they tell you what you were
promised.
